A limited search facility now exists to view recorded details of some 10,000 early Parish, General Assembly and Mission related photographs in our collections up to 1950. This database may be searched via our on-site search engine or manually by clicking on the date ranges below to bring up the databases and then follow the instructions at the top of each page. Our databases of early overseas Mission area and NZ Chinese photographs may be found on our 'Foreign Missions Office' site (link in left hand menu bar) with Maori Mission photographs under 'Academic Research' (link in left hand menu bar).

- Winter Gallery 2008 : "A Lantern Slide Tour of the Holy Land" - This gallery features some fascinating and historic old images taken in the Holy Land during the late 19th and very early 20th century, together with some relevant Biblical quotes. To view, click HERE.
- Spring / Summer Gallery 2008-2009 : "Punjab Partners" - This five page gallery commemorates the centenary of the establishment of our Mission work in the Punjab area of North India and a centenary of continuing Christian witness. Since 1953, our work in the Punjab has been under the direction of the Church of North India.
- Autumn Gallery 2009 : "New Zealand at War 1914 - 1918" - To co-incide with ANZAC Day, this gallery will feature a number of images from our collections which portray aspects of New Zealand's involvement in 'The Great War', both in Europe and the Middle East. A selection of interesting artefacts and ephemera in conjunction with extracts from published Church journals will also demonstrate how this catastrophe was both viewed and commemorated by the New Zealand Presbyterian Church and its members.
- Winter Gallery 2009 : "Illuminated Art" - This full colour gallery will feature our collection of beautifull old illuminated addresses and artwork.

Photographic Archives Overview : The Presbyterian Church Archives holds a collection of over 80,000 photographic images. This collection, which dates from 1861, is significant not only in relation to it's size but also the unique quality of it's content. Our earlier Mission photographs, which include South China, the New Hebrides (Vanuatu) and India, are significant both nationally and internationally as they provide a unique visual insight into the history of various indigenous cultures, in many cases directly supported by correspondence preserved in our Mission archives. The photographic collection also documents in picture form the life and work of the Presbyterian Church in New Zealand. To date, 19,000 images have been fully catalogued and placed on a searchable computer database.

The following lists detail which Churches, Parishes, General Assembly Committees and Groups we hold images for. Some collections are relatively small and we may in fact hold all extant images. We have noted where we hold a large or noteworthy collection. Unfortunately we do not hold a list of Parish photographs held in Regional Repositories from Oamaru northwards. Enquiries should be made direct to these institutions. Refer to our 'Research' page for a link to addresses of these institutions. Our photographic reproduction charges, contact details and special conditions appear on our 'Hours & Charges' page. The official Presbyterian Church 'Publicity Department' photographic collection from1952 to 1985 is not included in the lists below and has only been catalogued and input onto our searcheable computer database up to 1965. The original manual card-based index system is held from this date onwards. We hope to continue preservation and cataloguing work on this collection in the future as time and funding permits. This unique collection of over 25,000 images includes Churches, Parish activities, Ministers, events and people from throughout New Zealand and overseas and covers a diverse range of subject topics. We are happy to carry out a manual search of the post 1965 collection.
